- C@P site
(Community Access Program) – C@P provides free computer and internetuse at sites across Nova Scotia.
- Career
Your career is the total of your life experiences including education, paid andunpaid work; and community, volunteer and family activities.
- Certified
When you are certified, it means that a professional association or professional regulatory organization formally recognizes that you possess the appropriate credentials, training, and/or experience to work in your occupation.“Registered” and “licensed” mean the same thing.
- Credentials
These are the documents that prove your achievements. Examples ofcredentials include professional registration certificates, diplomas, and degrees.
- English as a second language (ESL) Training
ESL training is for individuals whose first language is not English. This training is designed to help you learn English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
- Industry
This refers to a group of businesses that are all engaged in a similar type of activity and produce similar goods and services. For example, restaurants and hotels are both part of the hospitality industry.
- International Qualifications
These are qualifications or credentials that were obtained in a country outside Canada.
- Labour Market
The labour market is made up of employers offering jobs, employees offering skills, and other economic conditions.
- Licensed
When you are licensed, it means that a professional association or professional regulatory organization formally recognizes that you possess the appropriate credentials, training, and/or experience to work in your occupation.“Registered” and “certified” mean the same thing.
- Occupational Language Training
This is training that is specific to a particular occupation. It goes beyond basic language training and includes terminology that is specific to that occupation. Physicians, engineers, and architects are examples of occupations that have specific language needs.
- Professional Association
This is an organization that represents the interests of its members who practice a similar occupation or profession.
- Professional Regulatory Body
This is an association that has been granted authority by the provincial government to:
•set initial requirements for certification and the standards of practice
•assess applicants’ qualifications and credentials
•certify, register, or license qualified applicants
•discipline members- Registered

- Regulated
Regulated occupations have legal requirements or restrictions with regard to licensing, certification, or registration. There are laws that control these occupationsand trades to protect the public. Examples of regulated occupations are: forester,lawyer, nurse, and teacher. Examples of regulated trades are: electrician, plumber, and welder.
- Revisions
Period of time during which a plant or a part there of is temporarily shut down, so that service and maintenance tasks can be performed. Phase during a revision that is planned and carried out independently of other phases. Block of time to schedule work.
- Sector
A grouping of industries or occupations.
- Trades
These are occupations in which standards have been set to promote quality work and skill excellence among tradespeople. Trades people are trained through apprenticeship. In Nova Scotia, there are over 55 designated trades and occupations.
